Srinagar, Jul 21 (KNO): The Government of India (GoI) on Tuesday informed Parliament that there is no separate or exclusive quota for students from the Union Territory of Ladakh at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Srinagar, stating that a common 35 per cent Special Preferential Quota has been earmarked for eligible domicile candidates from both Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. In a written reply to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha, the Ministry of Textiles, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said NIFT Srinagar reserves 35 per cent of its total seats under the Special Preferential Quota for domicile candidates from the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, besides registered Kashmiri migrants. The Ministry clarified that no separate "Home State" or "State Quota" has been earmarked exclusively for candidates domiciled in Ladakh after the bifurcation of the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir. It said the existing quota is intended to facilitate access to quality education in design, fashion and textile-related disciplines for eligible candidates from both Union Territories—(KNO)
